September 2018

June 2018

On June 21, 2017 Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota called to ask if I would create two commissioned pieces for them. Carl Schoenbeck, a retired professor from Concordia remembered the show I had there in 2005 and thought my work would be the perfect way to commemorate their 125th Anniversary in September 2018.

It has been an enjoyable and rewarding experience working with Carl and his committee this past year. David Bredehoft, also a retired professor from Concordia produced this video.  It tells the story about rephotographing one of our photo shoots. It’s an excellent representation of the rephotographing process.

The photo shoot was on Thursday, April 19, 2018, three days after a blizzard and a snowfall the evening before. The historic 1900 photo was of Concordia’s very first class. The present photo included 84 students, faculty and administration. The challenge was to get them in the correct places so the two photos would blend well when layered together.

Look for these points of interest as you watch the video:

  • Snow removal.
  • Where I had to shovel to set up my camera.
  • Photographing President Ries alone because he couldn’t be at the photo shoot.
  • Testing how many people we could get on the risers.
  • Marking with sidewalk chalk where participants had to stand.
  • Rugs on the risers to protect them from the mud.
  • Me directing a helper where to stand so the spot could be marked.
  • Me using a handful of snow to erase a marking mistake.
  • Carl assigning participants a position.
  • Participants holding numbers. Each participant signed in and received a number so all involved will be part of the historical documentation.
  • Everyone in the shade except the people at the far ends of the first row. We delayed the shoot 15 minutes while waiting for the sun to move.

My two new TIME& AGAIN pieces will be unveiled at the Concordia Founder’s Day Celebration on Thursday, September 13, 2018 in the Pearson Common. Concordia is located at 1282 Concordia Ave, St Paul, MN. I will also have a show there September 13 through October 5, 2018 in the Concordia Teaching Gallery.

July 2017

I’ll be hanging my new show at Abode Gallery in Stockholm, Wisconsin on Thursday, July 6! Opening reception is Friday, July 7 from 4:30 – 6:30.

The show will be up through September 1 and I will continue to have my work at Abode after the show. The Abode Gallery is located at N2030 Spring Street in Stockholm, Wisconsin. 715-442-2266

On Saturday, July 15 I will be at Abode during the 44th Stockholm Art Fair talking with visitors and giving a demonstration of my layering process.

There will be 10 new pieces in this show and a majority of them are of the Stockholm and Pepin Wisconsin area. And also debuting two new processes, leaded glass frames and clear acrylic blocks.

Hope to see you there!

February 2017

I have exciting news to share about Time & Again. First, writer and photographer, Maryanne Shaffer Coronna from Stockholm, WI and I have been collaborating to bring my work to the island of Kaua’i. Last winter during her time there she did some rephotographing for me of several Kaua’i historic images. From those I created four wonderful composites and just finished putting together a kit of promotional materials for her. She is in Kaua’i now and will be acting as my art rep, calling on museums, shops and galleries.

Second, I’ve been invited by Alan Nugent from the Abode Gallery in Stockholm, WI to have a solo show there this summer. Opening reception will be on Friday evening, July 7, 2017. Last summer I started working on new pieces of the Lake Pepin area and they will make their debut at this show.

I’ll keep you posted regarding these two new adventures.

October 2015

I’ve made my re-enty back into reality after ArtPrize 2015 and want to thank all of you who supported us with your visits, votes, posts, texts, calls and encouragement. Now we are talking with interested buyers and following up on contacts.

What a ride it was! We never expected to get as far as we did in the Public Vote. First the Top 100, then the Top 20 and finally 2nd place in the Installation Category. Though we didn’t come home with the big prize money it was priceless seeing and hearing the reactions from the thousands who got to experience our three pieces.

And then there’s the value in what I learned about producing, displaying and marketing my work, let alone what I learned about myself.

My goal going into ArtPrize was to gain exposure, make contacts and decide if it was possible to pursue my artwork full-time. That goal changed mid-stream when we made it into the Top 20 and I started to feel like a politician asking for votes. Now that I’ve had some time to reflect I’m happy to report that my goal for Time & Again is to bring them to more people and places.

Please keep checking our Facebook page, Time & Again Grand Rapids and spreading the word. We will keep you updated on what’s happening.

And maybe you just might like a Time & Again of your own…

September 2015

Welcome to the new Time & Again website! It’s being launched just in time for the ArtPrize® competition in Grand Rapids, Michigan on September 23 – October 11, 2015.

Three Time & Again 5 ft. x 3 ft. fabric pieces made it into this competition and will be featured at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel surrounding the fountain in the historic Pantlind Lobby. I’m collaborating on this entry with my cousin, Doreen Gunnink who lives in Grand Rapids.

The three historic photos we chose are all of Grand Rapids and their scenes are located within a block of this 100-year-old hotel.

A custom installation design was created with help from my architect husband, Rich Palmer. After three designs we finally found a way to install them around the fountain. And with the help of Doreen’s husband, Loren Gunnink the pieces will be lit with theater lighting.

If you’re wondering, “What is ArtPrize?”, here are excerpts from the official description.

“ArtPrize is a radically open, independently organized international art competition, open to any artist and awards $500,000 decided by public vote and expert jury.”

“The openness of ArtPrize is a radical departure from the centralized, or “top down” model of organization and curation traditionally used by the contemporary art world.”

“ArtPrize is the world’s largest art competition based on daily attendance, prize amounts, number of artists and venues.

“Artists and Venues self-register on artprize.org then search and discover each other online. When a Venue and Artist “connect” a hosting agreement is signed, confirming that the Artist will show their work at that specific ArtPrize Venue.”

Check back in the coming weeks as I journal more about ArtPize and my experiences there.
