about

My work is inspired by a love of old photos and a fascination with the passage of time. Wherever I am, I find myself asking, “What was this place like in the past?” I’ve spent hours studying re-photographing projects and they sparked my desire to do my own. I wanted mine to be something different than a side by side comparison of the old and new images. The idea of printing the images on fabric and layering them lead me to create my TIME & AGAIN artwork. Now I create commissioned pieces commemorating historic places and times.

I’ve had a camera in my hands since age 12 when my uncle gave me a Polaroid Swinger Camera. Photography became my passion as I worked my way through two careers. A lay off launched this passion into my third career. After photography school I was hired by a pre-press service bureau to set up an all-digital commercial photo studio, one of the first in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area. In 1996 I started a photo restoration and retouching business.

My first show of this work was at the Woman’s Club of Minneapolis in 2003. Since then I’ve been in numerous exhibits and created many private commissions. In October 2015 TIME & AGAIN Grand Rapids; three hangings featuring historic photos of Grand Rapids, Michigan made it into the ArtPrize Top 20 Public Vote out of 1,550 entries and placed 2nd in the Installation category.

Just when we realize we are in the present the moment slips into the past and we find ourselves asking, “Where did the time go?” The images of TIME & AGAIN inspire us to realize that life is both fleeting and powerful. It’s gone before we can hold it but leaves its mark with a memory. My hope is that these images encourage us to appreciate who and what has gone before and inspire us to think about what we will leave behind for future generations.
